About our American White Oak
American White Oak is one of our customer favorites, perhaps because it recalls tradition, history and the pioneering spirit of the West Coast states.
The species: Quercus alba is a deciduous tree native to North America, found from southern Quebec to Florida, and from the eastern sea board to Minnesota.
The wood: American White Oak has highly figured grain with a closed cellular structure. Its color varies from yellow-gold to light brown.
Uses: The closed cellular structure makes it useful for flooring, construction, shipbuilding, agricultural implements, and in the interior finishing of houses. Its water- and rot-resistance make it particularly useful for whiskey- and wine-barrels.
Hardness: Janka rating - 1,360.
Sourcing: Our White Oak comes from accredited North American sources.
Availability: May vary throughout the year.
